Peer Review

For the General Public

The ODDS and the NDA conduct peer review programs to settle disputes between patients and dentists or third-party payers and dentists.

Disputes that may be addressed through peer review involve:

  • Appropriateness of care,

  • Quality of care or

  • Whether a fee in question is the dentist's usual fee for a procedure, based on the difficulty or complexity of the dental procedure.

Peer Review

The procedure for initiating peer review is to contact the component (local) dental society and request peer review.

The number to call is (402) 896-6461. Please leave a name and a phone number, and the Chairman of the Peer Review committee will return your call promptly. S/he will ask you questions regarding the specifics of your concern, and offer suggestions for how to resolve them. The Peer Review Committee also conveys its decision to the dentist and other party involved in the peer review.

Under some circumstances, decisions of the peer review committee at the component level can be appealed to the state dental association by either the dentist or the other involved party.

For the Dentist

The American Dental Association has a variety of materials regarding the Peer Review process.

The Nebraska Dental Association offers a Resource Guide for Disciplinary Process and Medicaid Fraud. For more information, contact the NDA at 800-234-3120 or nda@windstream.net
