Oral Cavity Cancer: Diagnosis, Discussion, and Treatment

Presented by: Dr. Robert Lindau

This lecture will discuss work up, goals of care discussion, treatment focusing on neck dissection and new treatment paradigms.

Presentation Objectives:
  • Describe the roles of the team involved in treating head and neck cancer patients
  • Identify when the lymph nodes need to be addressed
  • Explain the findings and clincial significance of KEYNOTE 689 (a phase III open-label ranomized controlled trial that introduces neoadjuvant-adjuvant immunotherapy as part of the new "standard of care" for treatment of resectable locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma)

    This presentation will review reconstructive goals for oral cavity defects and highlight options to achieve these goals with in-depth discussion of relative advantages and disadvantages as well as key pears of use. Perioperative care highlights for optimal outcomes will be outlined.

    Surgical Options for Moderate to Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea

    This lecture will include a reivew of surgical options for patients with obstructive sleep apnea with special focus on hypoglossal nerve stimulation and maxillomandibular advancement surgery.

    • Describe the background and pathophysiology of obstructive sleep apnea
    • Idnetify the surgical indications and outline the work up process for hypoglossal nerve stimulation and jaw advancement surgery

      MEET THE SPEAKERS:
      Dr. Robert Lindau had six years of Naval service before completing undergraduate and medical school in Wisconsin. He completed a general surgery residency, a head and neck oncology fellowship, and a head and neck reconstructive fellowship. Dr. Lindau has been practicing in Omaha since 2012.

      Dr. Andrew J Holcomb is a board-certified Otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon who specializes in the care of patients with benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck. A Virginia native, he completed medical school at Easter Virginia Medical School and completed residency training in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in head and neck oncology, skull base, and micorvascular reconstructive surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital in Boston.

      Dr. David Guo is a Head and Neck Surgeon at Methodist Hospital. his clincial focus includes ablative and reconstructive procedures for pathologic conditions within the head and neck. He also has a special interest in skelatal surgery for management of obstructive sleep apnea. He completed residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Pittsburg Medical Center and Geisinger Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction at Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center.
