Infection Prevention and Control: Key Updates for Dental Practice Compliance

Through real-world examples and practical applications, this program highlights common infection control compliance gaps, new infectious disease challenges, dental unit waterline maintenance, selecting appropriate PPE and more. By the end of the course, participants will be better prepared to evaluate their current protocols, strengthen infection control systems, and foster a culture of safety and accountability within the dental team.

Course Objectives — Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Evaluate existing infection control protocols within their practice.
  • Recognize emerging inectuious disease risks and describe appropriate measures to minimize transmission in the dental setting.
  • Integrate infection prevention protocols into team workflows to improve consistency, efficiency, and safety.
  • Develop an action plan to enhance infection control compliance and readiness within their dental practice.

Cybersecurity in the Dental Practice: Hidden Risks and Practical Protection Strategies

Cybersecurity threats in dental practices are increasing in both frequency and sophistication—and many of the greatest risks are not the obvious ones. While practices may believe their systems are secure, hidden vulnerabilities often exist in everyday workflows, team behaviors, and overlooked technologies. 

This course is designed for dental assistants, hygienists, and dentists to identify and mitigate these less-visible risks that can compromise patient data, disrupt operations, and trigger regulatory violations under HIPAA. Participants will explore how routine activities—such as email communication, use of personal devices, cloud-based systems, imaging software, and even third-party vendors—can introduce significant security gaps if not properly managed.

Course Objectives — Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify hidden cybersecurity vulnerabilities within dental practice workflows.
  • Recognize commbon cyber threats such as phishing, ransomware, and social engineering attacks.
  • Evaluate current practice protocols for safeguarding protected health information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA Security Rule requirements.
  • Implement practical safeguards to reduce risk.

    Meet the Speaker:

    Mary brings more than 50 years of experience in dentistry to the profession as a Certified Dental Assistant and Registered Dental Hygienist. She is a former dental assisting educator and was a partner in a successful dental staffing service. 

    Today, Mary focuses on speaking and consulting with dental teams nationwide on     infection prevention, OSHA and HIPAA compliance, ergonomics, and chairside efficiency. Mary is also a co-host of The Compliance Divas podcast, bringing regulatory updates to dental teams for over 6 years.
